:

.

.

DRAFT
BATollefson:ks
2/17/77

UPDATE ON THE COLORADO WILD AND SCENIC RIVER STUDY

As our study nears some important decisionmaking points, we felt that

it was appropriate to let everyone know how the study has been

progressing. The following is a brief summary of what the study

team has been doing since the public meetings last July.

1. A summary of the input received at the July public meetings was

prepared. A copy of this summary has been enclosed. If you

desire more complete information on the outcome of those meetings,

please contact one of us. Thank you for taking the time to give

uS your thoughts.

2. In August the study participants made a field inspection of the

river. In all, about 25 individuals representing Federal and

State agencies, environmental organizations, and members of the

public participated in the field trip.

3. Following the public meetings the process of gathering resource

data was begun. Since that time we have been compiling information

on everything from vegetation, wildlife and minerals to population,

economy, transportation, and land use. This is one of the most

time consuming portions of the study, but should be completed by

mid-March.

0638
