iq

Tbc data used for the sawtimber analysis arc primarily FS 2400-17 summary records as provided by
Timber Data Company, 'Eusene, Or. The exceptions arc cut data and volume under contract. Forest
Service cut and sold records were usccI to pther data on volumes under contract and for cstimatins cut
Jcvels. Data on volumes under contract and annual cut levels were taken from Forest Service TSA-47S
quarterly reports.

Sold data includins prices, species and much more were recorded from the FS 2400-17 records. Althoush
dlcse records do DOt include any sale information for sales under $2,000, they arc best avaiJable. Tbcse
records, orisinally acquired from the Forest Service, arc checked and in some cases chanSed for aecuracy
by Timber Data Company. III addition, these records were checked by Jennifer Stone for aecuracy and
, adjusted for defAulted volumes or pranaturely amc:eIed contraclS.On each sale, only the volume actually
estimated to have bec:D cut on the COIIlraCt was tabulated as sold. For example, severa1 sales that Eversrc:en
cldaulted were DOt tabulated in our sold data. If a sale defAulted afler part of the volume bad been
barvestcd, then the rcmainina uncut volumes were proportioned to other sales if tile Forest SeMcc bad
resold them. Otherwise, this unharvested volume was not counted as volume sold. This unharvested
volume was volume that did not clear the market, so in an economic sense it was DOt supplied even thoush
it was offered. In all instances sold volumes refer to volume as recorded on the 2400-17 appraisal records.

Tbc data series charted arc presented for various time periods. For timber demand, some data series arc
presented for the full tell years, some for the most recent five years, and others for the most recent
available. III some instances, the most recent five years are used because this focuses 01\ the relevant part
of the data for timber demand. The data which arc from the cut and sold records, were only avaiJable for
the timbershed back to FY ' SiI, so these charts include 'FY 14 . FY '91.

(IJ2536
3
