One <br />'week later he reported that in a rough canyon on the Alamosa River a great fire was raging in the spruce.. <br />This fire accounts for most of the extensive burns within the canon between Stunner and the Worrel <br />Ranch especially around Jasper. <br /> <br />** Klondike Mountain 1900 - A fire originating within the Adams Fork of the Conejos swept NE o.ver <br />Klondike Mountain and wiped out heavy timber in Globe Creek. <br /> <br />** Rock Creek 1893 -In June 1893 in a single day fire swept the entire watershed of North Rock Creek. <br />"8urning embers, three to four feet long, were blown ahead of the fire for several hundred yards. <br />Hundreds of spot fires were Started and the ashes were a foot deep in some places. <br /> <br />** South Rock Creek 1892 - Frank Watrous said the South Rock Creek fire Started in 1892. <br /> <br />~ <br />.' <br /> <br />** La Jara Meadows 1B70'-1890's - Extensive bums covering the country to the north, west, and south <br />of the meadows were burned in an accumulation of fires set to free the area of underbrush for lambing. <br /> <br />** Cat Creek 1887 _ The extensive fire in Cat Creek burned over the entire upper reaches of the <br />drainage. <br /> <br />. There were some ponderosa pine, bristlecone pine, and Douglas <br />fir at the lower elevations on the Los Pinos and Conejos Rivers. The fire was believed to have been <br />started by railroad crews.
