Lake Powell filled for the first time in history on
June 22, 1980. Therefore, releases were governed by lack of storage
capacity and the need to create flood control space for the ensuing
year.

Operating statistics of the river for the water year 1979-80
are presented in Tables 4 through 8. These follow with accompanying
discussions.

Table 4 shows the measured flow at key stations. The first
three stations listed in Table 4 represent over 90 percent of the
flow into Lake Powell.

TABLE 4

MEASURED FL<l'l IN COLORADO RIVER AND
TRIBUTARIES FOR WATER YEAR 1979-80

(Thousands of Acre-feet)

Stati on ,

Measured Flow

Upper Basin

Green River at Green River, Utah
Colorado River near Cisco, Utah
San Juan River near Bluff, Utah
Colorado River at Lee Ferry

4,364
6,338
2,110
10,967

-3-
