The Public Awareness Program Area. State and regional program activities <br />were aimed primarily at the dissemination of information pertinent to <br />drought conditions, federal assistance programs, and water conservation. <br /> <br />. The Agricultural Credit Program Area. State and regional program <br />actlVitles were designed to assess agrlcultura1 credit needs and credit <br />ava i1 abil ity to ass i st farmers and ranchers in obta in i ng credit and/or <br />federal assistance. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. The A9ri cu ltura 1 Conservation Program Area. State and regi ona 1 program <br />activlties were designed to promote effiC1lent on-farm soil and water use <br />techniques. <br /> <br />. The Water Supply and Demand Program Area. State and regional program <br />activities were designed to identify and project probable water shortage <br />problems in time for mitigative actions. <br /> <br />. The Municipal Water Ava~labi1ity and Quality Program Area. State and <br />regional program activities were aimed at determining the viability of <br />water systems and the probability of water source failure in order to <br />prioritize system rehabilitation plans and to prepare grant requests for <br />federal and State aid. <br /> <br />. The Fire Suppression Program Area. Program activities were aimed at <br />augmenting State and local capacities to address the increased potential of <br />fire in municipal, rural, and forested areas. <br /> <br />. The Weather Modification Program Area. State projects were designed to <br />supplement winter snowpack and increase subsequent water supplies. <br /> <br />. The Economic and Social Modeling Program Area. The State program consisted <br />of one project designed to forecast drought effects on production values of <br />agricultural commodities, dependent sectors, and the tourist industry to <br />assess corresponding impacts upon sales tax revenues, family incomes, and <br />unemployment rates. <br /> <br />The eight sections that follow detail the activities that occurred at the <br />State and regional levels within the framework of each of the program areas <br />1 isted above. <br /> <br />By way of further introduction to the program areas, it may be useful to <br />identify some basic threads which ran throughout State and regional response <br />activities. <br /> <br />.
