Year." <br /> <br />March 31 <br /> <br />April 12 State Drought Coordinator introduces a Drought Task Force Program, <br />announcing eight task forces to work in critical areas of drought <br />mit i gat i on. <br /> <br />April 25 A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) is signed by the Secretaries of <br />Agriculture, Commerce, Interior, and the administrator of SBA <br />establ ishing an "Interagency Drought Emergency Coordinating <br />Committee" and a corranon procedure for the designation of Emergency <br />Drought Impact Areas to eliminate the need for individual requests to <br />each agency for drought assistance. <br /> <br />May 4 President Carter signs supplemental appropriation bills which <br />comprise much of the federal "Drought Package." <br /> <br />May 11 The Office of the State Drought Coordinator hosts a Drought Relief <br />Symposium in Denver. Federal representatives from appropriate <br />ass i stance agenci es meet with the State I s Planni ng and Management <br />Regions I Execut i ve Directors and with representat ives of vari ous <br />State agencies. <br /> <br />May 18 All counties in Colorado are designated as Drought Impact Areas by <br />the Interagency Drought Emergency Coordinating Committee. <br /> <br />May 23 The remaining components of the "Drought Package," providing for <br />short term water supply assistance to communities of over 10,000 <br />population, are signed by the President. <br /> <br />June 1 The fourth meeting of the State Drought Council is held in Denver. <br />Key agenda items i nc 1 ude HB 1723' s reconst itut i on of the Drought <br />Council; the disbandment of the present Council; and reports from the <br />drought mitigation task forces on fire suppression and agricultural <br />conservation. <br /> <br />June 10 Colorado HB 1723 is signed into law by the Governor, appropriating <br />approx imate ly $46,000 to the Off i ce of the State Drought <br />Coordinator; mandating the membership of the Drought Council; and <br />appropri at ing approx imate ly $104,000 for drought-related program <br />expenditures authorized by the Executive Committee of the Drought <br />Counci 1. <br /> <br />3 <br />
