t! .

On completion of Phase 1, a total of approxi-
mately 110 jobs will be created in both agriculture
and related businesses, including almost 40 new
on-farm jobs in Colorado and New Mexico.
Annual gross agricultural production would be
increased by an estimated $15,750,000, and
annual net farm income would be increased by
about $8,820,000. Approximately 23,750 acres of
non-Indian dry land will be added to thetax rolls as
irrigated farmland.

The project will also help meet anticipated
recreation needs in the area. Ridges Basin Reser-
voir will accommodate up to 1,800 people per day,
providing the area with an additional 210,000
recreation days annually. A recreation day ranges
from a visit of a few hours to one of an entire day.
For boating and fishing, a 7-lane boat ramp will
be available at Ridges Basin Reservoir. The reser-
voir will be stocked with trout. Approximately 10
miles of hiking trails and 50 camping and 50 picnic
sites will be available for public use.

Project Data

PHASE 1 PROJECT FEATURES

Ridges Basin Dam
Height above streambed (feet)
Crest length (feet)
Ridges Basin Reservoir
Capacity (acre-feet)
Active storage (acre-feet)
Inactive and dead storage (acre-feet)

Total
Water surface area at top of active capacity (acres)
Pumping Plants

313
1,600

130,000
150,000
280,000
2,270

Durango
Ridges Basin
Red Mesa (sprinkler irrigation)
Canals, Conduits, and Laterals

Maximum lift
(feet)

525
330
209

Capacity
(cfs)

430
540
77

Ridges Basin Inlet Conduit
Dry Side Canal
Long Hollow Tunnel
Southern Ute Inlet and Interim Irrigation
Canal
Durango Municipal & Industrial Pipeline
Shenandoah Municipal & Industrial Pipeline
Laterals

Length
(miles)
2.1
22.3
3.2

Capacity
(cfs)
430
710-320
710

5.2
3.1
7.8
115.6

375-100
11
6
various

.,.
;to",:,
II"'."
f?~J
r"0~
~f::f
r~_'_c7
;:.- ~I
,
r;~~

"

1:-

f "-

~ "

:"'.

~;

'0 7/87
