It. would increase irriGa- <br />tion s~r,rylies for production of livestock feeds ar~ also would benefit <br />recrea~ion, fish and wildlife} and flood control. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Three storage reservoirs would be constructed as part of the project. <br />Two would be in the White River National Forest in the White River Basin} <br />including Ripple Reservoir on the North Fork of White River and Lost Park <br />Reservuir on IDst Creek, a North Fork tributary. Flows at the Lost Park <br />site would be augmented by flows diverted by feeder canal from tributar- <br />ies or the South Fork of Williams Fork in the Yampa River Basin. ~ne <br />third reservoir would be ThornburGh Rescrvoir on Milk Creek in the Yampa <br />River Basin. Ripple and Lost Park Reservoirs would be coordinated in op- <br />erati~ but Thornburgh Reservoir would be an independent unit. <br /> <br />r-. <br />- <br /> <br />Reservoir releases along with available direct flows would be diverted <br />from st.::'e= chalmels below the reservoirs. In the White River Basin the <br />water would be divert.ed from the North ~'ork by the Yellow Jacket Canal' <br />and distributed by t.hat canal and its branch, the Josephine Basin Canal. <br />In the Tampa. River Basin most of the water would be diverted from Milk <br />Creek ~ the ~~lk C1~ek Canal and distributed by that cannl and ita <br />br'\nch, the Iles lateral. Some project ';,'<lter also would be divcrted from <br />~lilk Creek by existin~ canals. In addition to flows from main strcu"-o, <br />the praject water supply would include some return flows froDl irrir.at~on <br />and ~e water made available throueh more beneficial use of existinG ir- <br />rigatic~ diversions from minor tributary streams. Drains would be con- <br />structed as necessary on i1rri~ated lands. All of: the industrial, rnunici-' <br />pal, ..nd domestic water \fould be made available to the Yellow Jac;~et <br />Water Conservancy District in the main projcct canals for sale to the <br />water lOSers. The water users would be responsible for providinc; terminal <br />storane and facilities fOr treatment and distribution of the water. <br /> <br />At the three project reservoirs specific recreational facilities would <br />be c~tructed and minimUm pools provided for f:ish. The existing Axial <br />ReserYOir on Milk Creek would be stabilized for ~shinG and its active <br />capacity tranoferred to Thornburgh Reoervoir. At Axial Reservoir rights <br />would be acquired and facilities constructed f'or fishermen. Flows for <br />fish vnuld be rnainta.ined in Lost Creek 'and the T.orth Fork. '1'0 mitic;ate <br />losses -eo big game caused by the project, project fund's would be uscd <br />for lu.d acquiSition and for habitat improvemen~ on the acquired lauds <br />and ~c domain lands.
