<br />] <br />'< <br />".; <br /> <br />, to <br />'~ <br />t"- <br />- <br /> <br />JUNIPER UNIT <br />(Analysis based on reconnaissance data) <br /> <br />;f~BR4- Feb 1955 <br /> <br />The Juniper Dam site is on the Yampa River about 10 miles <br />upstream from the town of Maybe1l and about 24 miles dO'l'JIlstream from <br />the town of Oraig. A reservoir to impound 1,500,000 acre-feet would <br />back water to within 3 miles of Craig. The dam site is located vlithin <br />the potential Cross Mountain Reservoir and if constructed would limit <br />the height of the Cross Mountain Dam to 145 feet with a reservoir of <br />about 600,000 acre-feet. As a result the construction of Juniper would <br />reduce the amount of storage now contemplated on the Yampa River by about <br />2.5 million acre-feet. The combined Juniper and small Cross Mountain <br />developments would be less attractive for po'wer production than the large <br />single Cross Mountain unit. Also, their combined capacities, being only <br />slightly grel3.ter than the average annual flow of the Yampa River, would <br />contribute little to the regulation at Ule Ferry. <br /> <br />The Juniper Dam could be utilized as a diversion and storage <br />dam to serve lands in the Deadman Panch project southwest of th.e dam <br />site. An irrigation canal would divert from the dam at elevation 6,100. <br />The canal would run generally southwest to irrigate approximately 29,000 <br />acres of new land in Colorado and 61,000 acres of new land in utah <br />between the Yampa and White Rivers. <br /> <br />A reservoir of 1,500,000 acre-feet would permit the generation <br />of about 125,000,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually ,'lith existing <br />streamflows.
