PROGRAMMATIC AGREEMENT: Monitoring in Grand Canyon <br />and Glen Canyon <br /> <br />&ationale/PrOblem Statement: Consistent with the requirements of the PA, the NPS has implemented a <br />monitoring and remedial action plan for several years in both Glen and Grand Canyons. The five-year <br />cooperative agreements, initiated in FY2000, were completed in FY2004. Two new one-year Interagency <br />Agreements were executed in FY2005 in order to complete required GIS. database and mapping tasks <br />prior to the transfer of monitoring responsibilities to GCMRC in FY2006. <br /> <br />Inte!!.ration: Not applicable. <br /> <br />Expected Products: During FY2005, Grand Canyon NPS willi) complete GIS polygon mapping of 100 <br />to 160 cultural properties slated for management under a treatment plan, 2) normalize the extant Microsoft <br />Access monitoring and IMACS database, 3) analyze the database in order to eliminate redundant or <br />uninfomlative variables, and 4) monitor the effectiveness of erosion control devices. Glen Canyon NPS <br />will assist in the ongoing development of the Glen Canyon treatment plan. No additional funding is <br />recommended for FY2006. <br /> <br />Recommended Approach: FY2005: On-site observation, evaluation and GIS mapping of Grand Canyon <br />cultural resources by NPS. Subcontract the database development to a certified database management <br />consultant. On-site observation of contracted archaeological and geomorphological work conducted <br />during the development of the Glen Canyon treatment plan. FY2006: Transfer GIS and database files to <br />GCMRC. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />External Project A wards: Subcontract for database restructuring. <br /> <br />Project Accomplishments: Mapping of historic properties. Database completion. Recommendations <br />regarding the efficacy of erosion control devices. <br /> <br />Schedule: Glen Canyon NPS is based on the fiscal year.
