<br /> <br />To preserve and enhance the quality at <br />life Ihrough planning. conslruction, opera- <br />tion and management of the .Colorado <br />River Storage Project and participating <br />projecls, social assessment has become <br />an integral part 01 the Bureau of Recla- <br />mation program. Consideration of social <br />effects begins early in the planning <br />stages of a proJect. <br /> <br />In addition to the social effects of eco- <br />nomic and employment opportunities pro- <br />vided through irrigation, power generation <br />and industrial water, the development of <br />land and water lor municipal, recreation, <br />and fish and wildlife purposes also affects <br />people In the project area. Preservalion <br />and enhancement 01 the allected <br />population's social well-being are both <br />emphasized in the social assessment <br />process. <br /> <br />Sludies were Inlfiated on the San Juan <br />Unil and Uinta Basin Unil Phase II 01 the <br />Colorado River Water Qualify Improve- <br />ment Program. Minor revisions rellected <br />in the Supplement to the Final Environ- <br />mental Statement lor the Diamond Fork <br />Power System of the Bonneville Unit, <br />Central Utah Projecl, required minor <br />social investigations. The addition 01 <br />saflnity control lunctions to Ihe Dofores <br />Project also insligated minor social <br />studies. <br /> <br />The Wasatch Front Total Water Manage- <br />ment Study continued as did the Irrigation <br />and Drainage System 01 the Bonneville <br />Unit, Central Utah Project. Colorado River <br />Water Quality Improvement Program <br />investigalions continued on the Price-San <br />Rafael River Unit and Lower Gunnison <br />Basin Unit-North Fork Area. <br /> <br />Speclaf anafysis 01 the Fonlenelle Dam <br />modification proposals were initiated and <br />completed along with dam salety and <br />popufatlon at risk analysIs in FY 86. <br /> <br />Social investigalions on the Mesa-Delta <br />M&I Ground Water Study were con- <br />cluded. Studies on a series 01 Colorado <br />Water Quality Improvement Program <br />units were completed. These units <br />included Big Sandy, Dirly Devil, Lower <br />Gunnison Winter Water, Paradox Valley, <br />and Unita Basin Phase I. <br /> <br />Many of these sludies utilize the Social <br />Economic and Demographic Program <br />(SEDAP) and the Multi-Attribule Trade-off <br />System (MATS) to place economic and <br />demographic presenf and future condi- <br />tions, with and without Ihe proposed <br />projects, into perspective.
