I
I
I
I
I

COLORADO RIVER WATER USERS' ASSOCIATION
Nineteenth Annual Meeting
December 6-7, 1962

Nineteenth annual meeting of the Colorado River Water Users Association
was called to order: at 10 a.m" Thursday, December 6, 1962, by President E,
W, Yorke in the Convention Hall of Hotel Riviera, Las Vegas, Nevada.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Color guardsmen from Nellis Air Force Base performed their traditional
portion of the opening ceremony by presenting flags of the United States of
America and the State of Nevada which flanked the speaking rostrum throughout
the two-day meeting. Captain MacCormack, chaplain at Nellis, gave the in-
vocation.

Past CRWUA President Hugh A, Shamberger, director of Nevada's De-
partment of Conservation and Natural Resources, extended greetings from the
host state as the official representative of Governor Grant Sawyer,

"Colorado River with its developed power, its vast potential of undeveloped
power and its water for agricultural, industrial and domestic us es, is one of the
great resources of Nevada and the Southwest", Mr, Shamberger said in behalf of
Governor Sawyer,

"Las Vegas Valley, which has been experiencing a most phenomenal
growth, is fortunate in having underfoot a fine supply of excellent quality water,
but studies show the water level is declining", the Governor's representative
continued, "In the not too distant future, we will probably encounter difficulties
in extracting 'sufficient water to meet our rapidly expanding needs, Then we
must search for additional supplies and of necessity we must look to Lake Mead,

"This is of deep concern to me and to every person in Southern Nevada.
State agencies are concerned and we have encouraged the Bureau of Reclamation
to develop plans for a reclamation project to bring water from Lake Mead to Las
Vegas Valley and Boulder City. Planning for this project is on schedule and a
report will be ready early in 1963:

"As you can see, we have an intense interest in the Colorado River, as all
of you do, and based on this mutual interest, we Nevadans are happy to again
host this fine convention."

ARRANGEMENTS COMMITTEE

Philip P.
