The city;presently intends to obtain its water Sup,ply. through
expansion of its well field. For this method of delivery, the present
administrative procedures of the state Engineer would be the basis for
determining the allWunt and time of depletion of surfaee water by th~
city's well fields. Delivery of Albuquerque's allocated share of San.
Juan-Chama water at OtOWi, with appropriate reduction for storage and
conveyance lOl;lses above Otowi, would leave the Rio Grande supply
undiminished at that point. Jl,ppropriate conveyance losses WOuld be
deducted between Otowi and the point of delivery of Albuquerque's water.

Middle Rio Grande ConservanCY District Use

Delivery and accounting of San Juan-Ghama water for supplemental
irrigation within tbe Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District would not
present any particular problem. The District's a.1.located share of the
im;ported water eould, with a.ppropriate adJu.stments for storage and tra.ns-
mission losses, be delivered at Otowi. This San Ju.an-Chama water would
probably be delivered during tM latter part Gf July, in. August, and .in
September to s1q>plement the low flow period of the Rio Grande. The
present Jllethod of operatiolJ. of the Middle Rio Grande ProJect by the Bureau
is to <U"ert the required irrigation su;pply at the Ooebiti Diversion Dam.,
the Angostura Diversion, the Islata Diversion Dam., and the San Acaoia
Diversion Dam.. Usually there is no flow in the river below Isleta or
SM Acac:La, and there 18 seldom Wly flow in the river betweenANgoetura
and Albuquerque during the period. when su;pplelllental water would be
. delivered.. \Yater diverted abw~ Isleta is used and reused many times
throngh the interconnected canal and drain systems which now extend.
essentially from ,Goe.h.i:l;! to' the southern end. of the District near San
Antonio. . There would be little or no return flow or operation waste of
San Jue.n-Chlima water at the .lowar end of the District after it is first
delivered to the upstream. pOint of diversion at Ooohiti.

25
