releases from Heron No. 4 Rese:t"V'oir is the same as for the Cerra Unit,
except for the procedure for determining the direct diversions of natural
flow. Since opportunity will exist for diversion and reuse of return
flow in this unit, measurements of total diversions will include these
diversions of return flow. It will be assumed for accounting purposes
that when the natural flow available for diversion is adequate for the
irrigation requirements of all land in the unit, no return flow will be
diverted. When the natural flow available for diversion is less than the
total measured diversions, it will be assumed that all natural flow was
divertEld, with the difference being made up by diversions of return
flow a.nd storage releases. Therefore, direct diversions of natural flow
will equal the lesser of (1) total natural f10w available for diversion,
or (2) the sum of all measured diversions.

The direct natural flow diversions to old and new lands will
be com;puted in the same manner as for the Cerro Unit on the basis of
areas of old land and new land, and will be com;pensated by Heron No.4
Rese:t"V'oir releases on a daily or short~period basis. Since a part of
the additional direct flow diversions to the project la.nds will retum
to the river as return flow, an appropriate adjustment for return flow
credit will be mBdo as in the Cerro Unit.

The following items will be determined to carry out this
procedure for the Taos Unit:

1.
2.
3.

4.
5.

Inflow to Valdez and Indian Cam;p Rese:t"V'oirs.
Change in oontent .of Valdez . and Indian Camp Reservoirs.
Increased evapotranspiration losses from Valdez and
Indian Camp Reservoir areas. '
Release from Valdez and Indian Clalll.P Rese:t"V'oirs.
Natural flow available above all diversions on the
following streams:

Rio Hondo
Arroyo Seco
Rio Lucero
Rio Pueblo de Taos
Rio Fernando de Taos
Rio Chiquito
Rio Grande de Ranchos

6. Total diversions.
7. Consum;ptive use.
8. Retum flows.

IJ..ano Unit. Water for the Llano Unit will be supplied solely
by direct natural flow diversions from the Rio Grande at the Velarde
Diversion Dam. The measured diversions at this location will be replaced
en a daily basis by releases from Heron No.4 Reservoir. . As in other
units, appropriate credit will be given for return flow.

23
