The existing station is to be improved
by diverting arroyo flows which now deposit sediment at the
control;

"AreaMCapacity Data M Reron No. 4 Reservoir. Reliable areaM
capa.city curves are'to be prepared from topographic maps to be
done. by photogra.nn:netric methods to a scale of 1" ~ 1,000 feet
wi th a 5Mfoot contour interval, In ora.er to account for change
in storage, an adequate reservoir level gage will be maintained.

"AreaMCapacity Data - El Vado Reservoir. So that ;veleases of
imported water may be routed properly through E1 Vado Reser-
vOir, new area-capacity curves will be prepared to the same
standards as those for Heron No. 11. A recording reservoir
level gage wil~ be installed to measure the entire range of
reservoir stage.. This gage will repl.ace the existing. record-
ing gage which covers only a portion of the reservoir stage.

"Area-Capacity Data M Abiquiu Reservoix:,
data are to be secured for this reservoir
reservoir level gage will be maintained.

Adequate areaMcapacity
sHe. An adequate

"A;Ppraisal of Chanr~l Losses - Rio ~.
are to be used to develop a procedure for
channel losses.

Three main methods'
estimating present

(1) Consumptive use by reaches .willbe estimated by analysis
of graphs of daily gains and losses 'between successive gaging
stations.

(2) Complete aerial photographic coverage will be obtained
from Heron No.4 Reservoir to the mouth of the Chams. of all
areas influenced by Rio. Chams. flows. This will include the
tlood plain and all lands irrigated by diversions from the
main stem of the Rio Chams.. An analysis of land culture
will be made and the present consumptive use of the flood
plain and irrigated landsestima;ted.

(3) Seepage:runs will be made for various levels of flows
to appraise gains and losses by reaches of the river. . To
facilitate ~uch :runs, permission of the Rio Grande Co~act
COIlJlllission will be sought to make controlled releases at
appropriate times from El Vado and Abiquiu :Reservoirs,

,,' raisal of' Channel Losses and Depletions - Rio Grande above
Otowi.. Aerial photographiC coverage is to be oMa ned for all
tributary irrigation units and any adjacent areas and river
channels which might be influenced by present or project 1rri-'
gation.A land culture study will. be made which in turn will

12
