000868 tt

.

The scheduled FY 1991 tasks have been achieved by the Work Group. The
Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) and the Fish and wildlife service
(Service) committed existing staff and funds to assist in completing
the work tasks in FY 1991. However, to meet the schedule and complete
the Platte River Management Joint study (Joint study) by the end of FY
1993, additional funds and staff will be required by Reclamation and
the Service.

In March of 1991, the Work Group identified a total funding need of
$350,000 and $400,000 for FY 1992 and 1993, respectively. It was
proposed that the funding be included in the service budget with half
the funds to be transferred to Reclamation. These funds would allow
both agencies in cooperation with other interested entities to
complete the Joint Study as scheduled. without this specific funding
and additional staff, Reclamation and the Service cannot participate
at a level that would achieve the schedule presented to the
Coordinating Committee, and the completion of the Joint Study would be
delayed indefinitely. The Work Group recommends that the participants
in the Joint study work to secure the funding needed to complete the
program in FY 1993.
