Some reference numbers intentionally have been skipped as a result of editing, and a few references that were incorrectly listed have since been corrected and appended at the end of the alphabetical listing. The bibliography presented here is the product of a computer search of reference data bases that were subsequently downloaded and compiled into the subject report. In some instances, abstracts were also downloaded when available and included in the bibliography. Terminology and use of abbreviations are inconsistent in the abstracts. No attempt was made to edit these abstracts or define abbreviations. Extensive efforts have been made to ensure that the majority of the citations in the bibliography are correct. However, because ofthe manner in which they were compiled, some citations may contain errors or may be incomplete. Coauthor and subject indices loca ted a t the back of the report refer to reference numbers previously mentioned. Terms used in the subject index were selected from the "Water Resources Thesaurus" (U.S. Office of Water Research and Technology, 1980). Some additional terms selected were chosen by the authors to try to make it easier to find a given reference.
