Morrill, Sr. Water Resource Engineer <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />Denver, colorado <br /> <br />June 9, 1965 <br /> <br />------- <br /> <br />The Dolores Reclamation project is a proposed multi- <br /> <br />purpose water resource development in southwestern Colorado, just <br /> <br />east of the Utah-Colorado state line. It would develop flows of <br /> <br />the Dolores River for irrigation, municipal and industrial use. <br /> <br />Benefits would be provided to flood control, water quality con- <br /> <br />trol, recreation, and fish and wildlife conservation. It would <br /> <br />bring substantial employment opportunities to Indians of the <br /> <br />Southern Ute, Ute Mountain, and Navajo Reservations, which were <br /> <br />designated as redevelopment areas under the Area Redevelopment <br /> <br />Act of 1961. <br /> <br />A dependable water supply is the greatest need of the <br /> <br />project area. It is essential to expansion of the irrigated lands, <br /> <br />to stabilization of agriculture on the presently irrigated area, <br /> <br />and to continuing development of other resources. The lands <br /> <br />now irrigated are in need of supplemental water in the late grow- <br /> <br />ing season. Good quality lands are being dry farmed and producing <br />
