Many of the major canals in Water District 67 did not have
laterals identified, In a telephone interview, Bill Howland ciarified that the short tic-
marks shown on the maps without any specific length denoted head gate locations
for relatively short laterals s~rving lands close to the main canal, Canals for which
no headgate or lateral data were identified serve lands close to the main canai and
have negligable lateral lengths. Those laterals delineated for their full lengths on
Amity, Lamar and Buffalo Canals are distributary laterals conveying water to a
number of fields, The aggregate lengths of the lined and unlined distributary laterals
delineated for the canals in Water District 67 are shown in Table 3. Data for other
water districts has not yet been received,

I
m
I
I
I
I
.
I
,
.
I
I
f

o

A technique to estimate lateral losses as a function of canal length or unlined lateral
length could be developed using data presented in Table 3,

The following conclusions and observations were developed after reviewing farm and system

efficiencies presented in Table 4:

-.....

o The overall irrigation efficiencies reported from different sources for a given
ditch are generaliy consistent.

o The farm efficiency data reported by Don Miles reflects the individual ditches
water supply, As presented in Figure 4 a ditch with a relatively high average
surface delivery (exampie Rocky Ford) appears to be less efficient than a
water short ditch (example Fort Lyon). Note, the water supply estimates
presented in Figure 4 were provided by Don Miles and do not include recent
pumping estimates (BEC, 1986) or revisions to the SEO's diversion
database,

o The system and farm efficiencies reported will be valuable to assess the
techniques used to estimate ditch, lateral and on-farm losses in the water
budget analyses,

4
