I.

.

5

C. Alternative 3 - Dual Outlet Dam, 11,910 mWh Powerplant

This plan is also patterned after the original and includes the
hydropower facilities described in Alternative 2. The difference between
this plan and number 2 is that power would only be pr~duced in conjunction
with te~erature controlled releases for the downstream fishery.
Annual energy production with this plan is estimated at about 11,910 mWh, or
62 percent of Alternative 2. Project benefits with this alternative would
be reduced from $807,000 annually to $299,000 and some additional design
modifications would be required to overcome technical problems associated
with mixed releases.

D. Alternative 4 - Single Outlet Dam, No Power

Alternative 4 is the first of the single outlet alternatives where
all releases would be made through the low level outlet. This alternative
would not have a powerplant.

E. Alternative 5 - Single Outlet Dam, 19,240 mWh Powerplant

This single level outlet would incorporate hydroelectric facilities
similar to those described in Alternative 2, except that all releases would
be through the single outlet and therefore available for power production
within the capacity of the turbines.

This alternative, combined with the aeration option (Alternative
7) is the preferred plan.

F. Alternative 6 - Multi-level Outlet Dam, 19,200 mWh Powerplant

The alternative incorporating a multi-level intake system would
provide optimum temperature selectivity for downstream releases and access for
inspection and maintenance. The intake portals (at elevations 6815, 6775, and
6720) would be individually controlled by 5 x 6 foot pressure gates discharging
directly into a 78-inch diameter steel pipe.

Hydroelectric power facilities are the same as Alternative 2 but
due to increased head losses associated with a multi-level outlet, the energy
generated is estimated to be 95.5 percent of Alternative 2 and 95.7 percent of
Alternative 5.

G. Alternative 7 - Aeration of the Reservoir Bottom

Heavy metals are a potential water quality problem at the reservoir
and are discussed in detail under Water Quality in Chapter III.
