OU liff;:! '-.l

.

.

PLANS OF DEVELOP1.aENT

6p Five possible plans for providing the oity of Colorado Springs
with additional water are described subsequently. Reference to the roup at
the buck of this report will faoilitate fo11owing~through. All plans nnd
estimates are bused on reoonnaissanoe only; ~ore detailed studies will be
needed to arrive at firm oosts and to prepare speoifioations. The five
possible plans are listed in the foll~,ing tabulation in the order of thoir
logioal development and in the ordor of subsequent dosoriptions.

Quuntity ~
aore~feet I

I Upper Seven Lakos Reservoir and I
J Beavor Creek I St. Johns Tunnel I Reservoir No.4

J Diversion from Oil Creek I Catamount
I Oil Creek to No. Catmaount Creek I Creek vatershod
I Beaver Creek I Pipeline via Sand Creek City limits of
I below Skaguay and Colorado HighvJay 115 I Colo. This plccn would provido Colorado Springs with 2, 700 aore~feot of
municipal water from the Upper Beuver Creek watershod. It represonts a
refinement of tho plan for supplying tho sumo muount of water that was
described in the prelL""inary report of the potentL~l Gunnison~rkansas
Project. Under this plan, the water weuld be pumped approximately 150
feet upward from Middle Beaver Creek into the existing Colorado Springs
municipal supply system beginning with Reservoirs 4 and 5 and the st.
Jolh~s Tunnel which empties into Ruxton Creek. The pumped water, together
with the present supply would be regulated in Seven Lakes Reserveirs and
released into the existing 20-inch pipeline to the town ef ;,funitou. The'
water weuld generate energy en route in the municipally-owned Ruxton nnd
Maniteu hydroeleotric pewerplants of the Colorado Springs systel:'.

8. .The annual diversion of 2.700 aore-feet from the Beaver Creek
watershed weuld reduce the water supply fer the downstream Skaguay Reser-
voir. and thereby result in an annual less of about 2,500.000 kilcwlatthours
of energy from the Skaguay hydroelectric plant. both facilities owned and
operated by the Southern Colorado Power COlOlpany. Estirotes of the annual
gain and loss in hydroelectric powor production as a result of the diver-
sion are as followsl

3
