<br />(sri.. 3v~ )C7SC <br /> <br />'iI <br /> <br />I, <br />'., <br /> <br />NARHUwS UNIT <br />SOUTH PLATTE DIVISION <br />,'llS.:0lJRI RIVJ<;R BASIN PROJeCT <br /> <br />The NE'rrows Um.t of the ,'Jissoul'i ltivror Basin Project consists of <br />E' narrow strip of land bordering the South Platte HiveI' from a point <br />just below Kersey, Color~do, to thE ColoT2do-Nebraska Stat€ line. <br />The Narrows Dam and appurtenant fEatUrES WEre authorized under the <br />Flood Control Act of 1944, (Public Law 534), 78th Congress, 2d Session. <br />The NaTrows Unit was sUbsequently included as a p~rt of the comprehen- <br />sive plan in the Flood Control Act of 1946, tPublic Law 526),. 79th <br />Congress, 2d Session. The first approprio.tion for the d[:11l was granted <br />by the 80th Congress, 1st Session, (Public L2W 299), a supplemental <br />appropriation me~surE which cllotted funds to the Missouri River Basin <br />dEVE.lop,nc'nt. <br /> <br />The essenti21 featurE of the plan of development is the ~~rrows <br />Dam [!nd Reservoir on the South H~tte River about SEven mihs west <br />of the town of Fort l'lorgE'n. The purpose of this reservoir is to <br />provide flood control end irrig8tion store'fe., with incidE.ntal sediment, <br />fish and wildlife, and recreation benefits. Floods on Bijou Creek <br />will be controlled by diversion of th2t creek into Narrows Reservoir. <br /> <br />Alternate Damsites.--in selectinp, the most feasible site fer a <br />rCSel"VOiT to acco~plish flood contTol and conservation storage for the. <br />low<Or reach of the South datte River, studies were. mnde of six dif- <br />ferent damsites on the South flatte River in ('!Organ E'nd weld Counties, <br />Colorado, Design~ted in duwnstre~~ order, thGs~ arE thE H&rdin, <br />Goodrich, I-J(;ldom" l'arrows, Fort dorgan, and Old Fort dorgo.n sites-- <br />the only sites found in th(; vicinity th?t could conceivnbly be con- <br />sidEred 2S alt~rno.tes for ~.cco,"plishing the same purposes cs the <br />1~2.rrows D~rn. <br /> <br />Hardin Site .--ThE capacity of a rcs~rvoir to the physic?l <br />li,,,i ts of the H2rdin site would be h23,000 acre-f(.~t at meximwn watEr <br />surfaCE: el'"vn tion 4570.
