<br />\) <br /> <br />,) <br /> <br />o <br />U') <br />I.i.l <br /> <br />There is little or no danger of electro- <br /> <br />cution of eagles and other birds of prey <br /> <br />due to the dimensions and configurations of <br /> <br />the proposed lines. There will be some <br /> <br />danger, due to hunters, to birds which <br /> <br />alight on top of the structures. <br /> <br />Sage grouse may be disturbed by the <br /> <br />construction activities, but construction <br /> <br />will generally begin about mid-June, which <br /> <br />minimizes the effect on the grouse during <br /> <br />the breeding season, when they are most <br /> <br />sensitive. Once constructed, the lines <br /> <br />may actually benefit the grouse, which <br /> <br />have been known to move their strutting <br /> <br />grounds beneath the wires for protection <br /> <br />from aerial predators. <br /> <br />Excessive vegetation growth along the <br /> <br />rights-of-way will be controlled by <br />chemical herbicides approved by the U.S. <br /> <br />Department of Agriculture or other Federal <br /> <br />and State agencies. Herbicides will be <br />applied from the ground in controllable <br /> <br />sprays. The amount of herbicides applied <br /> <br />will be carefully planned to avoid soil <br />-171- <br />
