The same <br /> <br />is true of the abundant avifauna of the <br /> <br />finch family. Since there is abundant <br /> <br />mountain shrub on adjoining land, and <br /> <br />since critical breeding habitats are <br /> <br />located elsewhere, no severe impact on <br /> <br />populations is expected. <br /> <br />Prior to reclamation, small mammals <br /> <br />will be lost from the areas being mined, <br /> <br />and raptors dependent upon them for food <br /> <br />will be forced to hunt elsewhere. Song- <br /> <br />birds will be similarly lost from the <br /> <br />mining area. <br /> <br />The newly revegetated lands will probably <br /> <br />attract large numbers of rodents and <br /> <br />other small mammals, insects and insect- <br /> <br />and seed-eating birds. The rodents in <br /> <br />particular may become a nuisance and <br /> <br />have to be controlled. Raptors and <br /> <br />predators will find improved hunting in <br /> <br />these areas, and the adverse effects <br /> <br />of the initial mining steps upon all <br /> <br />-165- <br />
