C\J
~
If:l

the present game herds in the Williams
Fork Mountains area. The full importance

of removing part of the w~ntering range

on the north slopes is not known.

Preliminary studies indicate that areas

adjacent to the mine area are already

heavily used and an extensive relocation

to these adjacent areas probably would

not be successful. A short-term effect

could be a decrease in the big game

population. Studies will be undertaken
by Utah International to determine the

population trends and the amount of

utilization of the browse. The results

of these studies may indicate that addi-

tional food supplies for these animals

are necessary. If necessary this will be

accomplished by supplementary feeding or

increasing the capability of the sur-

rounding land to produce food. The

degree of success of the reclamation

project will determine to a large extent

the long-range effects on big game in

this area.

-163-
