lGG'?

K. Reservoir Storage Alloeation Data

Table 8 presents the reservoir storage allocation data for the
Project's five reservoirs.

L. Flood Control Benefits

Duri ng water year 1985, there was one occurrence in wh i eh Pueb 1 0
Dam was used to control flow in the Arkansas River and one occurrenee in
which Ruedi Dam was used to control flow in the Fryingpan River.

The flood control at, Pueblo Dam began on June 6 when the state of
Colorado's Division of Water Resourees offiee requested the Project
reduce the release to eontrol the flow on the Arkansas River at
Avondale. The stored water was released' beginning on June 12. The U.S.
Corps of Engi neers (Corps) est imated the fl ood control benefits to be
$234,000 as a result of this reservoir operation.

The flood control at Ruedi Dam began in early June when the outflow from
the reservoir was eontrolled by storing water in the reservoir and by
diverting water from the Fryingpan River Basin to the Arkansas River
Basin. Without regulation at Ruedi Dam; and diversi,on capabilities into
the Arkansas River, flows in the Fryingpan River below Ruedi Dam would
have been more than doubled until the middle of July. The Corps esti-
mated the flood control benefits to be $91,000 as a result of these
operations.

Table 9 shows the flood control benefits received on both Ruedi and
Pueblo Dams.

IV. OPERATION PLAN FOR WATER YEAR 1986

A. Genera I

Detailed monthly operation studies have been made for the four
reservoirs in the Project system (assumes Twin Lakes/Mt. Elbert Forebay
as one reservoir) which simulate the proposed operation for water year
1986.

In preparing the operation studies, flexibility has been allowed for
ehanges in the inflow or outflow as conditions warrant. Forecasts of
the April through July Ruedi Reservoir inflow as well as projected
Project imports for Turquoise Lake wi 11 be started on February 1 and
continue on the first of each succeeding month through May 1.

The contract with the District requires notifieation be given to the
District by May 15 of the quantity of water available for their use
through April 30, 1987.

14

.

.

.

.
