BOX 11568
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH 84111
September 28, 1973

IN ',EPLY 730
RHER TO:
500.2/123.&

To: Gilbert G. Stamm, Commissioner of Reclamation

From: David L. Crandall, Regional Director, Upper Colorado Region

Subject: Concluding Report--Grand Mesa Project, Colo.

TRANSMITTAL

Transmitted herewith is my report summarizing results of feasibility
studies of the Grand Mesa Project, a potential multiple-purpose water re-
source development in west-central Colorado. The project would develop
water from streams draining into the Gunnison River and its North Fork
from the south slopes of Grand Mesa. Most of the water supply developed
would be used for irrigation but the project also would provide munici-
pal and domestic water supplies and would create recreational opportuni-
ties and fish and wildlife benefits.

The report makes no recommendations for further Federal action on
the project at this time. It does, however, preserve the results of the
studies made for use in the future if changing circumstances indicate
that renewed consideration of the project is warranted.

Feasibility studies of the Grand Mesa Project have been made in ac-
cordance with the Colorado River Storage Project Act of April 11, 1956,
which named the project as one of 25 potential participating projects to
be given priority in the completion of planning reports. The Bureau of
Reclamation sponsored the investigations leading to this report. Several
other Federal agencies participated in the studies, including the Forest
Service, Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wild-
life, Bureau of Land Management, Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Mines, En-
vironmental Protection Agency, and Public Health Service.
