--
,,",
,

WATER From 5-8

moves toward a statewide watE'f policy by the
Governor's Metropolitan Water Roundtable.
r:d Drager, chairman of the Vall Valley Con.
solidated Water Distrtct. suggested that a wa-
ter-exchange could eliminate the need for both
the lIomestake II Project and several other
high-altitude diversions. including the contro-
versial fo::.agle-Piney project proposed several
years ago by the Denver Water Board.
Under that concept, Drager said, a new res-
ervoir could be buill north of Wolcott to hold
water pumped uphill from the Eagle River and
the Colorado River. That reservoir then could
be used in lieu of the Denver Water Board's
Green Mountain Reservoir to satisfy seasonal
demands downstream.
Drag(>f explained that Green Mountain then
could be laken o\'er by Aurora. Colorado
Springs, in turn. would get all the water from
the Bome;.1ake Reservoir system.
Harold Miskel of Colorado Sprt.ngs, chairman
of a stt'ering committee planning Homestake
II, termed the idea of a water trade "a grandi-
ose plan" dreamed up by Western Slope Inter-
ests not merely to preserve wilderness values,
I but to help mt'et their own water nt'eds as well.
"Nobody has sho\o\.'ll us an alternative plan
that'will furnish the ~;ame amount of water in
the same time frame at the same cost or less
and with equal or less environmental impact. If
they did, we'd be happy to build it," Miskel
said.

...

-
-

:-)

-
-

=>

I

I

I

I
I
I

I

I

..
