',,;. 1

PREFACE

The data, conclusions, and recommendations of this section
or the Arkansas, White and Red Basins Report have been largely fur-
nished by the Federal power Conmission (chairman agency), the Corps
of Engineers, and the Department of the Interior. Necessarily, be-
cause the data have been gathered over many years and proje, cts have
been formulated under different legislative d~ective8 and adminis-
trative policies, each of the agencies assumes full responsibility
for the material it furnished, for the basic estimate of the need to
be fulfilled by the possible development, and for the feasibility'of
the pl"ojects included. In this section, the material descriptive of
major existing and under construction pl"ojects has been compiled fram
data furnished by the project owners or constructing agency. Certain
material descriptive of authorized and previously recommended proj-
ects has been included in this section on recommendation of the prin-
, cipal investigative agency; further investigations or modification of
these projocts during the course of the AWR study, except as may be
noted in the more detailed discussions included in this report, have
been the responsibility of the pl"incipal investigative agency. Mate-
rial relative to the existing power supply and definitely scheduled
additions thereto and the past and estimated future power requirements
of the AWR power market region have been furnished, for the most part,
by the Federal Power Commission. Similarly, the estimated allocation
of the future power supply to subdivisions of the market region, the
transmission facilities necessary to deliver the potential hydroelectric
'power to suitable load centers, and the value of the potential power
have been furnished by the Federal Power Commission except for the
Colorado area, data for which was furnished by the Department of the
Interior. Project coats for the selected potential projects were fur-
nished by the principal irwestigative agency. The states and other
Federal agencies have rendered valuable assistance in carrying out
the study, both during the course of and for marv years prior to the
AWR studies.
