<br />is kept above elevation 640 to protect the young fish that are being grown in the backwaters. <br /> <br />From the end of July to mid-September, the reservoir is not dropped below elevation 637 to <br /> <br />protect the young fish. From mid-September to the first of October, the lake is then dropped <br /> <br />below elevation 635 for at least ten days while the one-year-old razorbacks for "harvested" from <br /> <br />the grow-out coves, PIT tagged, and returned to big waters. This is a substantial change from <br /> <br />historical operations. <br />MID-PACIFIC REGION <br /> <br />Sacramento River - Shasta Dam: Reclamation has been assisting salmon smolts get downstream <br /> <br /> <br />from the Coleman Fish Hatchery near Redding by conducting "pulse" flows on the Sacramento <br /> <br /> <br />River from Shasta Dam. Additionally, a temperature control curtain has been installed to provide <br /> <br /> <br />some temperature regulation for fish in the downstream river. <br /> <br />Stanislaus River: Reclamation has assisted salmon with "pulse" flows on the Stanislaus River <br /> <br />from New Melones Reservoir for the spring run salmon. <br /> <br />Trinity Reservoir: A 1981 Secretarial Decision directs releases from Trinity Reservoir to the <br /> <br /> <br />Trinity River be maintained at 340,000 acre-feet annually in normal years. The Fish and Wildlife <br /> <br /> <br />Service has been studying the flows as part of a fish and habitat restoration project that still is <br /> <br /> <br />continuing. <br />GREAT PLAINS REGION <br />Bighorn River - YelIowtail Dam: Reclamation has been working for a number of years at <br /> <br />reducing or eliminating the occurrence of nitrogen gas buildup below the Afterbay Dam. <br /> <br />Following a significant investment in testing and experimentation, the problem is now under <br /> <br />control. The Bighorn River is now one of the premier trophy trout fisheries in the west. <br /> <br />Ruedi Reservoir: Water is released from Ruedi Reservoir for the purpose of maintaining flows <br />
