0747

26

power; it's down to one power station now--we started with

seven, I believe, but they have changed the specifications

of the project so now there will be just one large power plant

and that will not produce power that can be sold at all times,

but they'll hove to find customers that can use what we call

peak power at times when there will be 0 shortage of power

on then they con buy some Fryingpan power; but I soy, it is

not first and foremost 0 power project and never was; we

wont the surplus water--the power is incidentul to getting

the woter.

Miss Burris: This is lorgely for irrigation ond for muni-
cipalities.

Mr. Chenoweth: There will be water for municipalities ond
that's one of the important featur,S for the project--Pueblo,
LaJunta, Rocky Ford, Fowler and otoer towns down the valley
will get muniCipal water if they wont it. The original pro-
posal was to build a pipeline from Pueblo to LaJuntc cnd
down further in the volley if the towns and municipalities
wonted to bUY the water. ~ow nothing has been done with
that as yet so for os I know; there wcs 0 question of
whether or not private interests would build it or whether the
government would built it and then .be reimbursed for it and
I think those decisions have not been finally mode. ColoradO
Springs is very much interested in getting municipal water
and able to toke 0 large amount for Colorado Springs; they
ore depending on this Fryingpan water and thot's why we have

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
