C)
-
~
'-..1

.

.

Farm Types

From the farm survey it was learned that the major farm type on irri-

gated land was a livestock operation with some cash-crops such as alfalfa,

small gains, and grass seed. The major farm type on tillable non-irrigated

land was a dry farm wheat. For the payment capacity analysis on new land

three farm budgets were used. One dry farm wheat composite land class budget

to represent future condition without the project and two combination

cow-calf cash crop budgets to represent class 2 and class 3 land with the

project. For the benefit analysis on new land a dry farm wheat composite

land class budget was developed to represent future conditions without the

project, and a cow-calf cash-crop composite land class budget was developed

te represent future conditions with the project.

Farm Size

From the farm survey taken in the project area it was learned that the

average farm size in the area was about 1500 acres. On the average this

accounted for about 185 acres of irrigated land, 575 acres of dry farm, and

700 acres of brushland. Farmers estimated that with the project 300 to 400

acres of their dry farm would become irrigated, resulting in a total of 500

to 600 acres of irrigated land per farm. Table 6 displays the average farm

size taken from the farm survey.

Table 6
Farm Size

Item
Irrigated
Dry farm
Brushland

Present
average
185
575
700

Farmers
estimate
with project
500-600
200-300
700

Unit
Acres
Acres
Acres
