Frost Free Period, <br /> <br />The period bet~en first and last killing frosts is generally <br />oonsidered to be synonymoos with growing season or irrigation season. <br />Although the dates for these seasons will not oorrespond frOD year to <br />year or on an average still the approximate length of eaoh is about the <br />same. The length of the frost-free period is generally a fairly good <br />indication of the length of the irrigation season, and is used by most <br />investigators as one factor in the determination of the consumption of <br />\'Ill.ter. <br /> <br />Records of the frost free period at Montrose and Delta indicate <br />that the season is ratb3r uniform throogh the valley. The averages shown <br />on the tabulation only vary by 5 days bet_n the two stations, and aver- <br />ages for oonoutrent periods only by from one to two days. <br /> <br />The avera&9 growing season is approximately 5 months long. run- <br />ning frolll the first ~ek in Me.y to the first week in October.
