oil-shale industry. Since most of the development work has been
done near the town of Rifle. only 42 miles from the Dotsero fower-
plant, this is the most likely location for the first oil-shale city.
Good, clear water will be needed for both industrial and municipal
use. It is possible that this need will begin to develop before the
Sweetwater Project is ready to deliver water. There is little doubt
that all the stored and imported water of the Sweetwater Project.
some 129,000 acre-feet annually, could eventually be sold after
being used for generation of power. As municipal and industrial
water requirements would be continuous throughout the year, de-
livery could be planned and would not interfere with the product~on
of power.

A valley pipeline, 42 miles long, would be required to deliver the
water to the new city. Clear. delivered water for municipal and
industrial pur"poses should be quite valuable. making construction
of a pipeline a profitable addition to the project in this case.

..... ..... * 'l~ *

2117

BENEFITS TO THE PROJECT AREA

The following benefits are important and should be of interest to
people in the project area:

1. The project would help satisfy a growing need in the region
for additional power and services providing clear 'Hater.

2. The purchasers of the resultant wholesale power would benefit
by this addition to their power supply.

3. 'The two counties involved, Eagle and Garfield, would have 15
newall-year jobs established on a permanent basis and sev-
eral summer maintenance jobs.

4. Construction work would provide over a hundred jobs and
bring additional purchasing power to the area for a 3-year
period.

5. Eagle and Garfield Counties would receive a substantial annual
increase in property taxes.

6. The State of Colorado and the Federal Government would re-
ceive a substantial increase in income taxes.

7. IVleadows Reservoir and the enlarged Sweetwater Lake will
provide excellent fishing and recreational facilities.

......,..,....* *****

19
