It includes <br /> <br />IW, ' <br />r:~ <br />~: .' <br /> <br />portions of the states of VJyoming, Colorado, Utah, New <br /> <br />Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and California, covering a total <br /> <br />of 242,000 square miles. The basin in ]dexico includes <br /> <br />about 2,000 square miles, making the grand total area <br /> <br />244,000 square miles. <br /> <br />The river rises in Wyoming and Colora,do and empties <br /> <br />into the Gulf of California, a dlstance by river of over <br />1,200 miles. By far the ~ajor portion of the water <br /> <br />supply comes from the upper part of the basin, the lower <br /> <br />third of the basin being mostly a desert region with a <br /> <br />.~ <br />,. , <br />"j;, ~' <br />,~ <br /> <br />,J:., <br /> <br />~, <br /> <br />very small rainfall.
