Upon pumping of the injection
well shortly after recharge, most of the water quality parameters exhibited a decrease in
concentration for the first 24 hours, after which the water quality stabilized at concentra-
tions intermediate between the injected and the native groundwater.

Aquifer tests in 1994 before and after the recharge event indicated a decrease in trans-
missivity of about 20 percent. This decrease was attributed to air entrainment in the aquifer
during injection and to some initial physical clogging within the filter pack around the well
due to settling and shifting. This hypothesis was supported by the fact that the results of an
aquifer test prior to the 1995 recharge event were similar to the pre-injection test conducted
in 1994.

The Huron Recharge Project has demonstrated that:

. Recharge is hydraulically feasible in buried glacial aquifers. However, high natural
water levels in the aquifer due to abnormally high precipitation and subsequent
natural recharge decreased the scope of the desired artificial recharge.

. Aquifer tests conducted before the 1994 and 1995 artificial recharge events indicated
very little change in either the transmissivity or specific capacity of the aquifer. Air
entrainment within the aquifer during artificial recharge did reduce artificial .
recharge efficiency.

14
