The data collected to date indicate that surface flows are <br />slightly alkaline and dissolved oxygen content varies inverse to the stream temperature, as <br />expected. Specific conductance shows a general increase from upstream to downstream stations, <br />indicating an increase in ionic strength, although the limited sample suite does not allow the <br />specific ions that may be increasing to be identified. No unusual field water quality parameter <br />data were collected during the first year of the Phase I baseline study at any of the surface water <br />sampling stations. <br /> <br />Ground Water Flow and Quality <br /> <br />There are nine ground water monitoring well locations, designated as MW-l through MW-9. <br />Corresponding surface water stations that are adjacent to these monitoring well locations have <br />the same numeric designation, i.e. MW-l is adjacent to CC-l (Figure I). <br /> <br />At each of the ground water monitoring well locations, a static water level was obtained at each <br />monthly site visit for use in calculating the alluvial underflow at that location. Once the water <br />level was measured, a portable submersible pump was inserted into the well, or the existing <br />production well pump was turned on, to obtain a representative water quality sample from the <br />well. <br /> <br />Ground water underflow measurements have been calculated using the Darcy equation, which <br />utilizes values of aquifer hydraulic conductivity, the cross-sectional saturated area and the <br />hydraulic gradient to calculate the underflow. The aquifer hydraulic conductivity values were <br />obtained from pump test data that have been provided to us by the entities operating the wells, <br /> <br />-9- <br />
