"

To provide the data needed for the computation of Such evaporation losses, the Commission has encOuraged
the establishment and operation of evapOration stations near each major reservoir in the basin and at other
selected loea tions,

Evaporation and other climatological data collected at the several stations in Colorado and New Mexico are
tabulated on the next page, At some of the stations, it was not Possible to obtain evapOration reCOrds through_
out the winter period.

The measurements of evaporation were made in accordance with standard practice for the type of pan in Use,
Measurements of preCipitation were made in standard B-inch rain gages, which were supplemented at Some of the
stations by recording rain gages.

Records for the evaporation stations at the State University, Eiephant Butie Dam and El Vado Dam antedated
the creation of the Commission; the station at Bosque dei Apache was established for ihe U, S, FIsh and Wildlife
Service; the station at Jemez Canyon Dam was established for the Corps of Engineers, All others Were
established at the request of the Commission.

The Rio Grande Compact Commission gratefully acknowledges the cooperation of the U, S, Weather Bureau
and U, S, Bureau of Reclamation for furnishing the climatological records contaIned in this report,

49
