SHORT TITLE. <br /> <br />2 This Act shall be cited as the "Black Canyon of the <br />3 Gunnison National ParI< Complex Establishment Act of 1985". <br /> <br />4 SEC. 2. FINDINGS AND PURPOSES. <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />(a) FINDINGS. <br /> <br />The Congress hereby makes the following <br /> <br />6 findings: <br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />(1) There exist unique natural and manmade land and <br /> <br />8 water resources along approximately 100 miles of the <br /> <br />9 Gunnison River located in Gunnison, Montrose, and Delta <br /> <br />10 Counties in Western Colorado. <br /> <br />11 <br /> <br />(2) That the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is <br /> <br />12 a single canyon system extending 50 majestic miles <br /> <br />13 along the Gunnison River exhibiting the only combination <br /> <br />14 of spectacular two thousand foot sheer canyon walls within <br /> <br />15 the narrow confines of Precambrian rocl< to be found in <br /> <br />16 North America, and represents the natural geologic link <br /> <br />17 which unites adjacent natural, scenic and <br />18 scientifically significant gorges, manmade land, water, <br /> <br />19 and other recreational resources. <br /> <br />20 <br /> <br />(3) This awesome creation of the powers of nature and <br /> <br />21 the other natural and manmade recreational resources surrounding <br /> <br /> <br />22 it, provide a massive scenic spectacle and a variety of outdoor <br /> <br /> <br />23 recreational opportunities, including swimming, boating, <br /> <br /> <br />24 water skiing, hunting, fishing, whitewater rafting, hiking, <br /> <br /> <br />25 horseback riding, off road vehicles, camping, photography, <br />
