Most of you receiving this
newsletter provided comments by way of statements at
meetings or by sending in cards and letters. Since that
time, many more of you have asked to become part of the
process. The public involvement mailing list continues to
gro,:, each day.

Volume 1 of the CRSO Newsletter discussed the verbal
comments provided at public meetings. This issue will
discuss the verbal comments but will focus on the written
comments received. Persons who made verbal comments
were encouraged to submit written comments to further
clarify their position.

Looking ahead, the next edition of the newsletter will also
be an expanded one. Within the next several months, we
will identify and describe the list of alternatives proposed
for study in the GCD-EIS. At that time we will present
them in a newsletter and seek public review and comment.

We have appreciated your involvement in the GCD-EIS
and we hope this newsletter will assist you in your
participation in future activities.

Nov 1990

THANKS

A specW note of thanks is extended
to all of you who participated in the
leoping process through
atlendance at scoping meetings or
by written comment. I

I
The Glen Canyon Dam EIS Scoping Report summarizes I
the. comments provided to the Bureau of Reclamation
(Reclamation) and the cooperating agencies now
preparing the Glen Canyon Dam Environmental Impact
Statement (GCD-EIS). It is a detailed content analysis of
the oral and written comments received during the
scoping period which was conducted from March 12,1990, '
to May 4,1990, as an initial step in the EIS process.

Individual letters and verbal comments are not
reproduced in the report, rather they are summarized by
categories of information provided. Individual letters and
a summary of verbal comments are on file and can be
referenced. For further information on the categorizing
process, please see "17,000 Responses...How Were They
Processed" in this newsletter.

The report was produced by Bear West Consulting Team,
a private business contracted to assist in public
involvement activities. The methods used by Bear West
were approved by the cooperating agencies who are
participating in the preparation of the GCD-EIS. Likewise,
the draft report was provided to all cooperating agencies
for comment prior to issuance of the final report.

This newsletter summarizes that report and shares with
you the overall range of concerns and suggestions
presented by the public.
