Savery-Pot Hook Project, Colorado-Wyoming (BR)--
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Position Statement

This memorandum briefly summarizes the impacts which the Savery-
Pot Hook Project would have on fish and wildlife resources and
habitat, and sets forth the position of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. It has been prepared under the authority, and in accordance
with the provisions, of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (48 Stat.
401, as amended; 16 U.S.C. 661 et seq.). This Position Statement will be
supported in greater detail in a report developed in cooperation .lith
the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Wyoming Fish and Game
Department. This report is in the final stages of preparation.

The Savery-Pot Hook Project, authorized for construction by Public Law
88-568 (September 2, 1964), lies in the Little Snake River drainage
and straddles the Colorado-Wyoming border. The Little Snake, a major
tributary of the Yampa River, flows through the project area in a
westerly direction, generally along the State line. The dominant
purpose of the project is the provision of irrigation water to 32,250
acres of land almost equally divided between the two states. This
includes full water service to 17,920 acres of presently nonirrigated
land (much of it not presently under any kind of cultivation) and sup-
plemental water to 14,330 acres of currently irrigated land. Approxi-
mately 20,000 acres of publicly ow~ed land (9,000 Federal; 9,000 State
of Colorado; 2,000 State of Wyoming) would be acquired for project
development and would be sold to individuals for settlement of new farms
and enlargement of existing farms.
