301 :j

WOOill~u

Facil i ti es wi 11 be developed to enhance fi sh and wil dl ife potenti al at
Jackson Lake Reservoir and below Narrows Dam. A fish hatchery at
Narrows Reservoir has also been proposed to enhance the reservoir
fishery.

Fish and wildlife evaluations provide for mitigation of losses associ-
ated with construction of the unit. It has been determined that approx-
imate1y27,820 acres of lands would be provided for fish and wildlife
management and that woul d mitigate 70 percent of the losses. There
would be 7,170 acres purchased specifically for this purpose and about
20,650 acres of other lands acquired for project purposes wou1d a1so be
made available for wild1ife management purposes.

If flood control is eliminated from the plan, it is estimated that there
woul d be a reduction of 14,000 acres acquired for project purposes.
This would result in a reduction of the amount of land available for
mitigation purposes by at least 50 percent. Therefore, the unmitiaated
losses would be substantially increased under the plan without flood
,control.

Total expenditures for mi ti gation are anti ci pated to be $10,1 mill i on

with an additional $2.6 million to be spent for enhancement.

Costs for recreation facil ities are estimated to be $9 mill ion. .

A reevalution by Federal, State, and local interests cou1 d modify the
extent of the mitigation requirements and enhancement values.

6
