I'

'.

1
2

FOREWORD

II

3 Moapa Valley Subevaluation Unit, a portion of Virgin River Unit, is a drainage

4 to Colorado River. See cover. Moapa Valley Subevaluation Unit was identified

5 as a problem area where irrigation and erosion are diffuse sources of salinity.

6 During the study, alternative solutions were identified and estimates were made
7 of effects of the plans to reduce salt loading to Colorado River.

8

9 An i nterdi sci pl i nary team prepared the report. The "USDA Study Pl an for
10 the Virgin River Unit", revised August 1978, and the Soil Conservation Service
11 (SCS) publication "Guide for Environmental Assessment", March 1977 along with
12 SCS environmental policy and 7 CFR-650 were references. Efforts for compliance

13 with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 are documented in the appendixes.

14

15 Assistance from other Federal and State of Nevada agencies is appreciated.

16 The Nevada Department of Wildlife information, was used for biological assessment;

17 the United States Department of Interior (USDI), Bureau of Land Management (BLM)

- -
18 provided color aerial photography which facilitated identification of wetland

19 areas; published reports, stream gage data and other information of the United

20 States Department of Interior, Water and Power Resources Service (WPRS) and

21 the USDI Geological Survey were used. The Clark County Conservation District

22 onfarm irrigation inventories; and reports prepared for Clark County, Nevada,

23 for areawide water management planning were used extensively.

24

25

003115

I
"
I'

i

,

Ii
