Also during this phase the remaining portion of the
pipeline will be completed and pumps will be installed in the remaining wells.
An on-site waterfowl experiment will be conducted during the late fall and early
winter by personnel from Colorado State University to determine the effects of
the salt pond on migrating waterfowl passing through the area.

Beginning in January 1979 and continuing until mid-1980, the second
phase will involve testing of the entire 18 well field to determine the most
efficient pumping pattern and overall pumping rate for the well field. This final
testing will also consist of designing and making the necessary modifications to
the facilities which will pump the salty groundwater from the series of wells
along the Dolores River in Paradox Valley, then pipe the salty groundwater to a
permanent stripping plant to remove the toxic gas aud on to an evaporation pond
for storage and evaporation.

The completion of the two-year testing program will provide data
necessary to determine the required pumping rate for development of final designs
for major project facilities needed to ultimately reduce the entry of salt to the
Dolores River by an estimated 180,000 tons annually.

111111111111111111111111

UO 270
