Most of the answers provided <br />are condensed from memos prepared by Department of the Interior <br />solicitors. within each Section, the questions and answers are <br />presented in ,chronological order. Dates in parenthesis refer to <br />the ~1me the memo was originally released. A more comprehensive <br />analysi~ of each issue can be obtained by consulting those docu- <br />ments. <br /> <br />It is recommended that care be exercised when using this material. <br />In the process of condensation, an occasional "fine point" or <br />qualification may have been excluded. In certain instances, the <br />opinions may be subject to modification based upon events occurring <br />after they were written or on situations not originally considered. <br />Additionally, the opinions attempt to deal carefully with the law, <br />but they do not have the force of law since they have not been <br />tested in a court. Nevertheless, the information contained here <br />should be useful to persons interested in the Wild and Scenic <br />Rivers Act. <br /> <br />UnJ.ess otherwise noted, the word "Secretary" refers to the Secretary <br />,of the Interior, or, where national forest lands are involved, the <br />Secretary of Agriculture.
