<br />-,< <br /> <br />w <br />c.;1 <br />o <br />... <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF OTHER ACTIVITIES IN 1985 <br /> <br />Title I <br /> <br />To satisfy the requirements of Minute 242 of the <br />Inter~ational Boundary and Water Commission, Title I of <br />Publit Law 93-320 authorizes the construction of several <br />permaQent measures downstream from Imperial Dam and makes <br />the replacement of bypass and reject waters a Federal obli~ <br />gation. <br /> <br />~. construction of the Bypass Drain in the United <br />States and Mexico, (completed in 1977) <br /> <br />3. implementation of measures for Wellton-Mohawk irri- <br />gation efficiency improvement (Irrigation Management <br />Services, Onfarm Systems Improvement, Research and <br />pemonstrations, Education Program, Technical Field <br />Committee), (measures being implemented) <br /> <br /> <br />The seven measures to be implemented under Title I are: <br /> <br />i. construction of the Yuma Desalting Plant, (under <br />qonstruction) <br /> <br />\~, <br /> <br /> <br />, <br />.' <br /> <br />4. Wellton-Mohawk acreage reduction, (completed in <br />1979) <br /> <br />,"! <br /> <br />S. Painted Rock Reservoir land acquisition and <br />Qperation schedule modification, (acquisition pending <br />~ederal court action to determine whether the Corps of <br />Sngineers has legal authority) <br /> <br />6. construction of the MODE (main outlet drain <br />$xtension) Siphon, (construction completed in 1976) <br /> <br />7. fish and wildlife mitigation measures, (mitigation <br />~easures are ongoing). <br /> <br />In ad~ition, Title I authorizes replacement of the first 49 <br />miles ,of the existing earthlined Coachella Canal with a <br />concr~te-lined canal to reduce seepage and to salvage about <br />l32,OaO acre-feet of water annually. Construction was <br />essentiialy complete for the canal but peripheral contracts. <br />are i~ effect related to the purchase and installation of <br />control equipment for the canal.
