Water and Storage Needs Assessment Enterprise - Update

In 1997 the Board of the \tVater and Storage Needs Assessment Enterprise, in cooperation with the local
Storage Study Committee, hired the engineering learn of GEl Consultants, Inc. and Helton & Williamsen to
conduct the Water and Storage Needs Assessment Study. The scope of that study \vas defined by the
District, 27 other water-user entities within the District, and the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The
goal oj the Study is to determine the future demand for water supplies and storage among the municipal and
agricultural entities within the District through the year 2040. The Study will then list and analyze a set of
alternatives which may be used to meet those storage and supply demands.

Preliminary numbers from the Study indicate that population within the District's nine-county service area
may grow to as high as 1.5 million. Current population within the District totals 620,000. The chart below
graphically shows the potential growth in population from 1997 to 20..1-0.

Base and High Population Projections
Southeastern Colorado \Vater Conservancy District

(PopulatJon In 000)

1,600
1,400
1,200
;;;
g 1,000
t
< 800
.
,
,
~ '00
0
"
.00
200
0

1,506.",

s.o..r.:..
