<br />M <br /> <br />, , <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />13~5 <br /> <br />Parker Dam being slightly over 800 ppm and the salinity at Imperial <br />Dam being slightly over 1,000 ppm by year 2000. <br /> <br />A major portion of the salt reduction would be through improve- <br />ments in existing irrigation projects, one of the types mentioned <br />above. In addition to reducing the river's salinity, these projects <br />would provide substantial benefits to the Upper Basin states wherein <br />they are located. These benefits would result ~rom reclamation of <br />poorly drained lands, reductions in applied water, savings in ferti- <br />lizer applications, reductions of other farming costs, and overall <br />salvage of water. <br /> <br />The immediate goal is to see that the Bureau of Reclamation <br />obtains sufficient funds so that it can make a meaningful beginning <br />to feasibility studies on salinity control projects in fiscal year <br />1971-72. This would cost approximately $500,000 for the next fiscal <br />year. The longer range goal is to expedite the studies, establish <br />a federal Colorado River salinity control program, and construct and <br />operate the projects found to be feasible. <br /> <br />-2- <br />
