LOCATION West Divide Project The West Divide Project is located in west-central Colorado in the Upper Colorado River Basin. . PURPOSE The West Divide Project would provide water for irrigation and municipal uses. It would also pro- vide fish and wildlife and recreational benefits. STATUS The West Divide Project was authorized for con- struction by the Colorado River Basin Act of September 30, 1968 (Public Law 90-537) as a partic- ipating project under the Colorado River Storage Project Act of April 11, 1956 (Public Law 84-485). The project is now in the advanced planning stage. Detailed geologic, hydrologic, economic, and engineering data have been gathered, and feasibil- ity designs and estimates have been completed by the Engineering and Research Center in Denver. Environmental and cultural resource data collection is nearing completion. The Draft Definite Plan Report is scheduled for mid calendar year 1980. 'rue Draft Environmental Impact Statement and public hearing are due in mid calendar year 1980 and the Final Environmental Impact St,atement in early calendar year 1981. This water plus water from East and West Divide Creeks would be distributed throughout the service area by a system of four project canals and the necessary lateral systems. 'A system of pumps would lift the water from the river to the canals and also to Dry Hollow Reservoir for stor- age and later release for irrigation and municipal use. The flows of West Divide Creek, regulated by the construction of Kendig Dam and Reservoir, would be for irrigation and municipal use in the rural area south of Silt. The West Divide Canal and existing ditches would distribute the irrigation releases from Kendig Reservoir. Drains would be provided as needed. Additional municipal water would be made available from Beaver and Battlement Creeks by ex- changing present irrigation supplies in those streams with water from Cache Creek Canal. Diversion and distribution of Beaver and Battlement Creek water made available by exchange from Cache Creek Canal would be the responsibility of the water users. Recreational developments would be provided at both project reservoirs. Late-season diversions from the Colorado River would be replaced by releases from Green Mountain Reservoir (an existing feature of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project).
