This fact was substantiated by the BPA .SUIIIIlIllry
Report on the Feasibility of Control of Seepage of Saline Ground Water,.
December, 1972. The report stated that the 1972 salinity measurements
along the White River indicated increases of total dissolved solids of
some 89 tons per day, or about one-half the salinity inflow measured
prior to plugging the well in 1968. The field data collected during
1973, has verified a continuation of increased saline flow into the
river, however, the additional gainshas not as yet been computed.

Based on the foregoing conditions, the United States Geological
Survey, Water Resources Division, agreed that a full-scale investigation
of the Meeker Dome area on a project basis was warranted, and state
cooperation was essential through our department. The two agencies
agreed upon a minimum two-year exploratory study with an equally shared
budget of $100,000 each year to begin on July 1, 1974. Due to the
unfortunate cancellation of the $50,000 item in the 1974-1975 state
budget, the field investigations must now be postponed a full year.

In view of the overall salinity reduction program on the Colo-
rado River System, it is important that an increasing saltload entering
the White River be investigated and brought unc!er early control. There-
fore it is requested that the same funds be re-budgeted for fiscal year
1975-1976, and at least for the following year, and extended if necessary.
Investigations conducted from 1971 to the present date have divulged
several facets of a complex geologic and hydrol09ic nature on Meeker
Dome that demand attention without delay.

1. Of primary concern is the continuous encroachment of

'I
t~tj ,
